For the role as a Senior Development Underwriter based remotely at home/reporting into the Reading branch, you will be required to develop new business opportunities and also handle a portfolio of an existing portfolio. You will have a strong underwriting background and be used to dealing with complex cases (dealing with large premiums circa £50k to £200k GWP) and being the go-to person dealing with referrals.
The key objective is to focus on profitable growth, generating new business, and retaining your existing renewal portfolio, whilst maintaining excellent service standards at all times and building long standing customer relationships.
You would be responsible for looking after key broker accounts in the South-Central belt which would include Hampshire/Sussex/Berkshire/surrounding borders and be able to trade and negotiate effectively.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the face of the company in presenting propositions for larger risks based on industry knowledge and high underwriting expertise, subject to the scale and complexity of the case.
- Works with TUs to negotiate coverage, wordings and pricing that differentiate the compnay to meet customer needs.
- Proactively develop a robust pipeline of qualified growth opportunities leveraging both client and broker relationships and ensure pipeline is effectively managed and realised.
- Proactively lead the development of broker relationships, sometimes client, across the Region, taking full ownership for the generation and placement of profitable commercial business from self-sourced.
- Underwrite profitable new business, in line with the company’s established underwriting controls and practises and act as a referral point in branch across NB and, at times, renewals.
- Develop and maintain a quality distribution strategy and communication plan with key influential brokers to ensure financial KPIs achieved.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the performance of regions’ book (COR, Rate, Retention, Hot Spot trades, profit drivers and underwriting circular).
- Support other Regions where appropriate aligned to own areas of underwriting/trade segment/industry expertise.
- Act in line with underwriting license, holding regular reviews with Branch Underwriting manager
The right candidate will be extremely approachable, confident and capable of delivering outstanding levels of service both internally and externally, over the telephone and face to face, as the role will encompass a range of external customer meetings. You will need be visible in the market on a frequent basis and ideally have some existing broker relationships which can be utilised.

Very competitive basic salary £50K to £70K, car or car allowance, bonus incentive and pension plus other employee benefits would be provided as standard. ACII or a commitment to continuous professional development would be advantageous.
