A new opportunity has arisen working for a reputable global insurance company where you could be based anywhere within the UK provided you can plug in to a regional office 2 to 3 days a week, and the rest of time home working if desired.
This particular role is working within their Motor Trade division as their Underwriting Manager.
Within this opportunity, you would hold great responsibility and providing the autonomy to lead and shape the Motor Trade teams, you'll ultimately being the driving force in the continuing success story. Specifically focused on leading and managing the operational trading underwriting function, you'll will be making decisions on complex exposures, as well as leading their underwriting teams to build technical excellence and deliver on profitable income targets - hence the need for a highly credible, connected and creative individual with a proven track record.
Overview of the role & responsibilities: -
- Lead and manage the operational underwriting function to underwrite Motor Trade risks, in a highly competitive market.
- Apply underwriting and pricing strategy and policies, to build technical excellence and deliver profit & income targets.
- Deliver planned underwriting results through underwriting account management (revenue & product), financial planning, account monitoring and analysis of underwriting trends.
- Responsible for profitability, underwriting governance and control of all business traded through the Motor Trade team.
- Demonstrate loss ratio control by effectively implementing and monitoring underwriting controls.
- Implement & influence underwriting philosophy & strategy through key relationships, building a reputation as an underwriting expert and build confidence across the business.
- Lead on the establishment and maintenance of key broker relationships to drive the Motor Trade accounts account forward.
- Set & monitor underwriting standards across the team ensuring effective management and deployment of empowerment.
- Act as a referral point and decision maker on all technical & trading issues to deliver technical excellence.
- Lead and manage the senior underwriting team through effective performance management to continuously develop the technical capabilities.
About you: -
- ACII qualification desirable.
- Degree level or other equivalent qualification preferred.
- Experience and ability to lead & motivate underwriting teams.
- Previous experience of working at a senior level within a commercial insurance environment; sound understanding of insurance market and processes essential.
- Excellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long-term relationships both internal and external.
- Pragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills.
- Long & short-term planning & analytical skills with proven experience of both operational & strategic planning in previous roles.
- Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios, including large case and portfolio management, within a Commercial environment.
- Strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a commercial insurance environment.
- Understanding profitability of business within the intermediary channel.
- A driven self-starter with excellent connections in this market.
