We are looking for a Lead trader to join our client, reporting in to their city centre Manchester office, and to drive profitable growth through Mid-Market and Corporate clients with a turnover of around £250m upwards. You will be expected to develop key relationships with their partner brokers and build on their reputation. They work smart, empowering their people to balance your time between home and the office in a way that works best for you, your team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, either at one of their office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.
This opportunity will be partnering brokers across the Northwest & surrounding areas.
Role Overview
- Underwrite new and existing business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices, using the full range of tools available
- Proactively lead the development of strong trading relationships with panel of brokers, taking full ownership for the generation of profitable business from nominated panel
- Proactively develop a robust pipeline of appropriate new business opportunities and ensure that long-term pipeline is realised by ensuring broker / client engagement
- Lead meetings, presentations and tender responses with brokers / end customers to portray the company’s capabilities and secure new business opportunities
- Coach, train and develop Senior Underwriters to continually improve their technical and trading capability from a New and Existing business perspective
- Act as the referral point for Senior Underwriters within your team, providing technical and trading input to improve the quality of decisions within their empowerment
- Work with Underwriting Manager to actively manage and review underwriting standards and licences within the team ensuring effective management and deployment of empowerment
- Effectively promote and deploy the company’s strategy, product range, propositions and key differentiators to leverage commercial opportunities
About You
- ACII qualification desirable
- Excellent negotiation and sales skills
- Mid-corporate underwriting experience is essential e.g., slip based business, bespoke wordings, international and captives
- Experience of large case and portfolio management in the Commercial Property and Casualty sector, including client exposure
- High level of technical product knowledge for Commercial Property and Casualty classes
- Time management and prioritisation skills
- Established networking and relationship building skills
- High level of communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels both internally and externally
- Ability to identify and convert business opportunities
Very competitive basic salary dependant on experience £65K to £80K, annual based bonus, pension up to 12%, PMI, DIS, 28 days holiday (option to buy/sell 5 extra days).
