Our insurer client has a great opportunity where they are seeking an experienced Casualty Underwriting Manager to work from their city of London operation.
This is a great job for a professional Underwriter with team leadership experience as you will build the teams capability and underwriting development of new products and expansion of their underwriting appetite!
THE ROLE
You will be responsible for leading a team to drive the underwriting strategy, risk acceptance and pricing for casualty classes including both financial lines and general liability classes across Mid-Market, SME Digital, Schemes and Global Corporate.
You will need to provide clear strategic direction for the casualty lines (underwriting, pricing, risk acceptance, appetite, and risk management) whilst continuing to build on our approach of meeting more every customer’s needs.
- Ensure the broader commercial lines strategy reflects the needs of customers / market ensuring appropriate alignment between our SME and Global/Corporate business.
- Oversight of portfolio management providing effective challenge to the trading teams to ensure delivery of our planned profit & premium volume over both short and long term.
- Review technical, legal issues & developments and produce proposals to reduce risk and/or exploit opportunities and/or reduce blockages.
- Provide strategic direction for the new and emerging risks and opportunities in pricing, risk selection and management of risk.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience working in a senior underwriting role. Strong technical capability in either financial lines or general liability classes
- Portfolio management and leadership of a diverse liability underwriting portfolio. Excellent understanding of the insurance industry with a broad knowledge of external regulators
- Good coach and mentor coupled with strong leadership and communication skills
- Strong embedded broker and customer relationships - developing strategic contacts and relationships in a complex environment
- Analysis of data trends to identify growth opportunities and inform future underwriting strategy.
- Understanding of complex non-standard underwriting arrangements and reinsurance
REMUNERATION
- Competitive Salary (depending on experience) up to £150K
- Bonus opportunity - 12% of annual salary
- Generous pension scheme – company contribute up to 14%
- 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days
- Up to £1,200 free share annually
