This is a great opportunity for someone looking to join one of the UK’s leading insurers as their Regional Technical Underwriting Manager.
Roles like this are exceedingly rare due to senior level of the position, which has arisen due to an internal promotion.
As a Regional Technical Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the Regional Underwriting Contribution for the South region through Regional revenue and profit plans by leading and managing operational Technical Underwriting and Empowerment of the branches across the Region (Regional revenue budgets for 2021 circa £600m including schemes revenues).
You will shape the future Underwriting structure, culture, and capability within the region by monitoring quality management within the branches and significantly enhancing capability. You will lead the referrals team for the South region, monitor and recommend adjustments to empowerment and also take a major role in building trade segment expertise and product development in support of strategic growth areas. You will personally input into the underwriting and client relationship management of our largest clients and schemes participating in broker and client meetings at Director and CEO level.
WHAT THE COMPANY ARE LOOKING FOR
- An experienced Underwriting Manager with an In-depth knowledge of technical underwriting across most Commercial classes of business and some knowledge across all with detailed knowledge of different trade sectors and associated insurance hazards
- ACII Qualification or similar, Degree or equivalent educational level
- Excellent risk assessment and risk management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills supporting negotiating with and influencing senior staff internally and at customers
- Proven record of operating in a matrix structure leading and motivating groups of senior technical experts
- Extensive knowledge of the regional insurance market
- Thorough understanding of a commercial distribution environment (Brokers / Broker relationships)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills
- Proven track record of proactively managing accounts to achieve financial results
- Sound understanding of insurance market and processes across commercial lines insurance operations
- Excellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long-term relationships both internal & external to influence
- Strong organisational skills and prioritisation
- Extensive knowledge of the company’s Commercial product range
- Strong long & short-term planning & analytical skills with proven experience of both operational & strategic planning in previous roles
In an ideal world then the successful candidate would be located in and around the South or the West Midlands, being able to be in their London office once a week; however due to the nature of the role and working throughout the various regions within the UK, they will require on average to be once a month in the other Southern regional offices where you’d manage your time effectively.
In addition to a very attractive basic salary £85k to £110k (Dependent on location & experience), there would be a car allowance, decent bonus structure which is achievable, pension, PMI, 28 days holiday, and many other staff benefits in addition.
